About The Workshop
Join us at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre for Getting Published: From Manuscript Preparation to Acceptance, an immersive, week-long workshop designed to help researchers navigate every stage of manuscript preparation and the publication process.
Learn directly from experienced editors from Ecology and Evolution, Journal of Biogeography, Molecular Ecology, and Proceedings of the Royal Society of London: Biological Sciences through seminars on manuscript preparation, technical writing, and publishing strategies. Participants will also have dedicated writing time, one-on-one guidance, and opportunities to explore the incredible surroundings of BMSC.
The BMSC provides an inspirational and intimate setting that is perfect for making progress on your manuscript, with the added bonus of the unique chance to receive guidance from experienced editors.
Come prepared to write and leave with meaningful progress toward your next manuscript.

Dates: Tuesday January 26-Saturday January 31, 2027 (4 nights)
Cost
Regular registration: $1,350 CAD
Late registration: $1,500 CAD
This cost includes the ferry ride rom Port Alberni to Bamfield (round trip), on-site accommodation, all meals from our on-site cafeteria, workshop content and instruction, and daily field trip excursions.
Bursaries:
There are $200 scholarships available to the first 10 graduate students who apply.

Arley Muth is Executive Editor of Ecology and Evolution and the Journal of Biogeography. Her research focuses on kelp forest ecology, climate change, and species interactions. Arley began her publishing career as Assistant Editor for the Journal of Phycology following completion of her master’s degree at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. After earning her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, she returned to scientific publishing, where she has combined her passion for research with a commitment to supporting authors throughout the publication process. Drawing on her experience as a researcher, author, reviewer, and editor, Arley enjoys helping scientists better understand scholarly publishing and develop effective strategies for communicating their work. Through her workshops and mentoring, she provides practical guidance on manuscript preparation, peer review, and navigating the path from submission to publication.

Sean M. Rogers is a Professor of Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary and Executive Director of the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre. He leads an internationally recognized research program in ecological genomics and evolutionary biology, with a focus on how species adapt and persist in rapidly changing environments. Sean is a Senior Editor for Molecular Ecology and an Associate Editor for Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences. Drawing on three decades of experience as a researcher, author, reviewer, supervisor, and editor, he brings a practical perspective on developing compelling scientific stories, strengthening manuscripts, navigating peer review, and publishing research for impact.

BMSC recognizes that plans can change, particularly when travelling to a remote location. We kindly ask
that guests notify reservations@bamfieldmsc.com as soon as possible if they need to cancel or modify
their reservation.
• More than 30 days before the event start date: Full refund less a 15% administrative fee.
• 15 to 30 days before the event start date: 50% refund.
• 14 days or less before the event start date: No refund.
• No-shows are not eligible for a refund.
