What are accommodations like?
Accommodation for School and University field trip groups
All of the housing facilities are conveniently located within walking distance from the teaching facilities, offices and the cafeteria.
Housing facilities are equipped with emergency response devices including smoke detectors, emergency lighting, telephones, and fire fighting equipment.
As part of a room and board package, groups will stay in one of our housing facilities:
Buchanan Lodge:
Rooms – Each room has two bunk beds that can accommodate up to 4 people, with a total of 98 beds. Rooms are cleaned and maintained by housekeeping. Linens can be provided on request. Each room has two desks with high speed Internet connection (100 Mbps).
Shared bathroom and laundry – There are several showers and washrooms on each floor, a coin-operated laundry is located on the ground floor. There is also another coin operated laundry facility in the cafeteria.
Support for people with disabilities – the Lodge has rooms and bathrooms to accommodate people with disabilities.
Seaside Dormatory:
Rooms – Each room has two bunk beds that can accommodate up to 4 people, with a total of 32 beds. Rooms are cleaned and maintained by housekeeping. Linens can be provided on request.
Shared bathroom and laundry – There is a shared washroom/shower between every two rooms. There is coin operated laundry facility in the cafeteria.
Common study area – Each dorm has one common studies area with desks, chairs, and appropriate lighting.
Fully equipped cabins:
Rooms – Each cabin has four or five rooms. Each room has bunk bed that can accommodate up to 2 people. House keeping cleans the rooms periodically. Linens are provided. Each room has two desks with appropriate lighting.
Shared bathroom – There are showers or bathtubs in each cabin. There is also a coin operated laundry facility in the cafeteria.
Common area for socializing and activities – Each cabin has a fully equipped living room and a kitchen with cooking supplies (stoves, refrigerators, cookware, dishes, etc.).
Which airport should we fly into when coming from Alberta?
Nanaimo and Comox are the two closest airports to BMSC.
BMSC has contracted the West Coast Trail bus, which is a 24-passenger shuttle bus, to pickup students at both locations. Some groups opt to fly to Victoria instead, often adding a day of educational activities there, but you will need to hire a coach bus to get to BMSC from Victoria.
How much it will cost to bring a group of students out to BMSC.
User fees: $63 per person per day (user fees waived for 1 chaperone per 11 students)
Accommodations (shared): $35.876 per person per night
Meals: $55.80 per person per day
Total fees: $160.00 per person, per day.

What are the costs of BMSC souvenirs (hoodies, t-shirts, etc.)
Hoodies are $40, t-shirts are $20, sweatpants are $25, hats & toques are $15, and postcards are $2. (*all prices subject to change)
We accept cash, as well as all major credit and debit cards.
Do you offer professional development (Pro-D) for teachers?
We do not offer workshops for individual teachers, however, we have provided teacher workshops in the past when groups have approached us with more than 10 persons interested.
What health care facilities are available in Bamfield?
The Bamfield Health Centre is located at 353 Bamfield Road.
Regular business hours: Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm. Phone: 250-728-3312
After hours on-call Nurse available 24 hours: 250-735-1151.
The nurse sometimes leaves the Centre to make house calls or deliveries therefore it is recommended that you call ahead from BMSC before going to the Health Centre. Also, note that there is no cell phone service directly outside of the Health Clinic. The closest cell phone service spot is just South of the Centre at the top of the hill on Bamfield Rd (above the hotel/pub).
The UP coordinators are trained in Mental Health First Aid. Please feel free to drop by our office and chat, anytime.
Is there internet access?
The Rix centre is equipped with wireless internet. Each room in the Buchanan lodge is equipped with two high speed Ethernet ports per room. The Cabins also have internet (WiFi).

Can our dietary needs/preferences be accommodated?
The kitchen is equipped to accommodate many dietary needs and allergies.

Is BMSC a scent-free workplace environment?
YES!
BMSC has implemented a scent-free workplace environment. Exposure to scented products can adversely affect a person’s health. In high concentrations, scented products may trigger a negative response for those with allergies or chemical sensitivities. Students and visitors are asked to be considerate in their use of products such as perfume, makeup, shampoo, deodorant, etc. or from other products such as air fresheners, cleaners, etc.
Can I bring my dog/cat/komodo dragon?
Student’s pets are not permitted at BMSC.
