On November 25th, 2025, the PMSA signed of a statement of intent for collaboration with the Océanos Institute at the University of Concepcion in Chile. This next step looks to further build collaborative ocean research and education programs between the two countries.
The collaboration is largely focused on exchanges of researchers and students between Chile and Canada, with the first 12 Chilean students already scheduled to come to BMSC in 2026! There are also plans for collaborative marine research to help tackle analogous Pacific Ocean challenges faced by the two countries that together border about 20% of the world’s coastline.
