Communication Regarding the BMSC Webcams

Dear community,

Our station is undergoing a major tech and internet upgrade that was made possible through a Canada Foundation Innovation grant. This upgrade is crucial to the education, research, and conservation work happening here and was also necessary to prepare for when Connected Coast can provide the community with fibre optic! Like any major upgrade, it is taking time to change our equipment, such as the webcams, over to the new system.

During the upgrade, we have had to pause the live webcams, as we work to find new models that will function with the new systems and coordinate with our IT teams to find a secure way to once again live stream – as it does manifest some security concerns in a modern data landscape.

We understand that the BMSC webcams are a very useful (and fun) resource that BMSC has been able to provide for the community in collaboration with the Bamfield Historical Society and generous donors, and are working on solutions. Though we do not have an exact timeline, we can confirm that we are actively exploring a higher quality web cam experience!

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Sean Rogers and the BMSC Team
