BMSC Alumni researchers race to understand how kelp forests dampen ocean noise

Our BMSC Alumni continue to do important research into the habitat-value of kelp forests.

Dr. Kieran Cox, BMSC Alumni, and currently a postdoctoral fellow at Simon Fraser University, predicts that kelp forests may offer marine organisms a quiet refuge from ever-increasing ocean noise. As kelp forests disappear, being predated upon by sea urchins and thinned out by warming seas, he and other scientists are racing to understand, protect, and restore what could soon be lost.
