Permits

External (non-BMSC) permits are required for various research and education activities depending on the collection site. Please see a list of possible permits below for your activities while at BMSC.

Instructors: most education activities are covered under the BMSC Education Permits including: DFO Scientific License, DFO ITC Permits, and Huu-ay-aht First Nations Heritage Investigation Permit. For access to these permits, please email The Head of Animal Care to see if your planned activities fall with in the scope, or if additional permits are required.

Researchers: you are responsible for applying for your own permits, as well as submission your final collection numbers to the relevant agencies.

Please note that a single BCITC permit does not cover the collection and the return of animals. If you intend to return animals back to their collection site, a separate BCITC permit is required. Research animals cannot be collected or returned under the BMSC permits.

If you have made arrangements for BMSC staff to collect research animals prior to your arrival on station, please ensure your permit dates reflect the earlier collection dates, not your arrival date at BMSC.
