Dr. Brent Else

Associate Professor

Dr. Brent Else, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary. His research interests include air-sea gas exchange processes in arctic seas; Arctic marine carbon cycles; ocean acidification; sea ice biogeochemistry; and remote sensing.  He is also working on research projects that increase access to relevant scientific data for Inuit communities.  At the University of Calgary he teaches courses on Meteorology, Hydrology, Oceanography, and Statistics.  At BMSC he has taught the Biological Oceanography course.

Brent’s favourite thing about teaching at BMSC is the enthusiastic students, and he loves to do as much teaching “on the water” as he can.  On field trips, Brent likes to take students on trips to hunt for evidence of freshwater mixing in Barkley Sound, to study the impacts of estuarine circulation in the region.Biological Oceanography 2018
