Job Overview
The Housekeeper ensures that all guest and staff areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, sanitation, and safety. This role contributes directly to guest satisfaction by supporting a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment. Working with minimal supervision, the Housekeeper performs a variety of routine cleaning tasks in residences, dorms, kitchens, bathrooms, lab space, meeting rooms, offices as well as the cafeteria. The incumbent is also responsible for maintaining an up-to-date inventory of cleaning and lodging supplies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Clean guest cabins, bathrooms, common rooms, as well as the shared cafeteria, laboratories, boardrooms, offices and other areas by dusting, mopping, washing, vacuuming, disinfecting, polishing, and restocking.
- Replenish linens, towels, uniforms, toiletries, and cleaning supplies as needed.
- Empty waste bins and properly dispose of garbage, recycling, and compost in designated areas.
- Sweep or wash exterior entryways and porches.
- Maintain cleanliness of floors, walls, windows, and all surface finishes including waxed and polished areas.
- Move furniture and equipment as required in performance of duties.
- Wash, dry, and fold laundry.
- Operate all manner of hand and power tools to obtain effective performance.
- Request and store cleaning supplies and materials and provide routine maintenance on cleaning tools and equipment.
- Report damages, furniture, fixtures, and equipment in need of repair.
- Monitor inventory levels for towels, bedding, cleaning products, gloves, and restocking materials.
- Support laundry services, including collection, washing, drying, folding, and redistribution of linens.
- Operate housekeeping golf cart to aid in the performance of duties.
- Follow all BMSC health and safety protocols, including WHMIS, and safe chemical handling procedures.
- Assist in maintaining security of facilities.
- Assist in seasonal deep-cleaning or setup tasks as assigned.
- Perform other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.
Skills and Abilities Needed
- 2+ years’ experience in custodial or housekeeping roles.
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, clients, and students.
- Physical capacity to carry out duties of the job description.
- Able to operate related equipment.
- Willing and able to work all shifts, including weekends, as required.
- Knowledge of safe cleaning procedures and chemical handling.
- Demonstrated reliability, attention to detail, and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of WHMIS legislation and WorkSafeBC (WCB) regulations.
- WHMIS certification or willingness to complete upon hire.
