Dr. Chris Neufeld is our new Associate Director, Education at BMSC where he will be overseeing BMSCs core educational mission: to inspire the next generation of citizens, to educate the next generation of scientists, and to facilitate real-world inquiry by fostering collaborations between citizens, students and scientists.
Chris holds a Ph.D. in Ecology and Environmental Biology from the University of Alberta and held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories. He has been teaching university courses at BMSC since 2010. Most recently, Chris comes to BMSC from a faculty position at Quest University where he taught ecology, evolution, and animal behaviour, with a focus on student-centred experiential learning. Chris has published many scientific papers (most with undergraduate and graduate co-authors) on topics such as introduced species, biodiversity loss, climate change, and… barnacle sex. He holds the dubious honour of having nervously mumbled the word “indeed” 8 times in 5 minutes while achieving his childhood dream of being interviewed on CBC’s Quirks and Quarks. Chris believes strongly in the value of strong mentorship networks in undergraduate and graduate training and will continue to strengthen BMSCs place as a world-class facility that integrates cutting-edge education and research.
WELCOME CHRIS!
