A celebration of life will be held for Lee Weber on September 2nd, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Lee Weber, 65, at the Trillium Hospice Palliative Care on June 2nd, 2024, following her journey with cancer.

Lee is survived by her daughter Nadia Olafsen, son Tate Pearson, grandchildren Sophie, Caleb, Jude and Theo, sister Andrea McCourt, niece Paige and mother Rita Weber. She was preceded in death by her father Ralf Weber on June 19, 2019. Lee was fiercely proud of her children and was the quintessential mother bear, putting everything aside in a heartbeat to attend to their needs.

Since 2008, Lee’s home and work have been at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre (BMSC), where she worked as the controller, business manager and then managing director. Lee cared deeply about the station and was instrumental in daily operations and leading improvements for visiting researchers and students. Lee received commendations from the Western Canadian Universities Marine Sciences Society, the University of Victoria and the Ministry of Advanced Education in recognition of her leadership in these areas, but she always attributed such success to the BMSC team and its partners. Indeed, Lee developed a number of professional relationships with the University of Victoria, consultants, contractors, auditors and vendors over the course of her career, who came to know Lee as the heart and soul of the marine station.

A celebration of life will be held for Lee at the BMSC in the Rix Centre for Ocean Discoveries on September 2nd.
