We are hosting on-site field trips once again, starting in February 2022!

We are fully booked for field trips for Spring 2022. Please email us if you would like to be put on a wait list.

Thank you for your patience as we update and relaunch the Field Trip Program! These updates have been carefully considered to ensure a smooth program delivery following an extended closure. Please note the following important changes to how our programs will operate:

  • Bookings will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis, and will allow you to submit requests for trip packages with pre-set dates. Unfortunately, package dates are not flexible. Most dates are now booked for Spring 2022, so be sure to check the availability calendar before submitting your request.
  • Field trip packages will be available for either 2-night, 3-night, or 4-night stays, and will have set rates for 12, 24, 36, or 48 individuals (students and chaperones). We encourage groups to fill all spots in a package, even if this means opening up extra spots to students in other grades. For the 2022/2023 season, we are unable to accommodate groups with more than 48 individuals, and cannot accommodate overlapping group arrivals.
  • BMSC is implementing a plan requiring all staff that are eligible for Covid-19 vaccines to be fully vaccinated before the season opening. We will also be encouraging guests that are eligible to be fully vaccinated, and chaperones will be required to show proof of vaccination. The BMSC adheres to current BC Health Authority Guidelines and guests are encouraged to follow these closely when planning your trip. Our safety plan and Hazard Assessment Control Program for Covid-19 is available upon request. Visitors should be aware that Bamfield is located in a remote community, albeit with a 911 first-responder service, and the Bamfield Health Centre ready to assist in the event of a medical emergency.

Discovering marine science on the wild wet coast; video produced by Ambrose University Zoology student, Chaz Francis.

Our educational field programs have  been providing multi-day field trip experiences for students of all ages since 1975. The experiences provided at BMSC by our Education Team have touched the lives of thousands of visitors every year, inspiring many young students to become marine scientists.

A field trip to BMSC is a unique way to engage your students in a hands-on learning experience and observe organisms in their natural habitat on BC’s magnificent west coast.

All of our programs are developed to support the Prescribed Learning Outcomes of the BC Ministry of Education’s Integrated Resource Packages.
